HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN YOUR HOME

HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN YOUR HOME
The Nova Scotia International Student Program, through the Halifax Regional School Board, is
looking for families to host international students in their home. Our students come from many
different countries around the world, and stay a duration of 3, 5, to 10 months.
This is a wonderful opportunity to expose your family to another culture, and help a visiting
student adapt to our culture. Quite often the friendships developed from hosting an
international student, last a lifetime. Hosting an international student is a great way to show
school support, and add valuable diversity to our community.
There is 24/7 support from a local homestay coordinator throughout the hosting period, and
your family will receive a monthly stipend to help offset the cost of hosting a student. The Nova
Scotia International Student Program also holds monthly cultural events for the students, and
some events include invitations to host families. In addition, the NSISP holds an initial student
orientation to help the student with the adjustment into their new home, school, and
community.
If you are interested in the opportunity to host a student, and would like more information on
this wonderful experience, please contact, Alison Richardson arichardson@hrsb.ca or call
902-222-9886.
Sincerely,
Alison Richardson

Student Parking Pass

The application for student parking is available in the main office. Student parking is permitted at the back of the schools parking lot in designated areas only. The first three rows are for staff parking only. Any students parking on school property must be parked in a proper spot, tickets may be issued for parking illegally.

Reloadable Zip Card

Chartwells has introduced a NEW and CONVENIENT way to purchase food at the school cafeteria with the Zipthru DINE WITH US Reloadable Card! Just like any gift card, a balance is loaded on a card and declines as purchases are made. The online function of this program provides convenience for parents to purchase, reload and monitor spending as well as set up an account to protect the remaining funds. In 4 easy steps you will be confident that your child has been provided with healthy meal options and a protected balance. This relieves the need for a packed lunch or carrying cash. Purchasing or reloading $100 or more will give you an ADDITION of 10% bonus dollars directly added to your balance. Visit www.zipthru-card.ca to purchase an e-Certificate by email today. Present the printed e-Certificated to the cafeteria and receive a Zipthru card with the designated balance!

IT’S SO EASY TO PURCHASE…
1. Load a balance on a card. We recommend loading online at
www.zipthru-card.ca using a credit card, but a card can be initially
loaded at the cash register as well.
2. You don’t need a physical Zipthru DINE WITH US card for initial load.
Simply purchase an e-Certificate online that allows you to load a
balance instantly without the physical need of a card. When purchase
is made online an e-mail will be sent immediately with an e-Certificate.
Simply print and present to the cashier at the cafeteria who will transfer
the balance to a card.
3. Each time the card is used to make a purchase, the amount of the purchase is
deducted from the balance on the card. A balance is printed at the bottom of each
receipt.
4. After a balance has been added you can protect the balance by creating an account online at
www.zipthru-card.ca. If lost or stolen, go online and put a hold on the balance remaining and then contact the Chartwells Supervisor to have the balance transferred to a new card.
