Grade 10 Homework Hub Timeline

The Homework Hub button will appear in their accounts on September 18th. Online tutoring services through the Homework Hub for grade 10 students will commence in mid-October (sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday). EECD will facilitate a Digital Open House to coincide with the commencement of online tutoring services in order to demonstrate these tools and services.

Picture Retakes Oct 6

Retakes of school photos will be done on October 6. This will be for any students who did not get their picture taken the first day or those wishing to have it done again.

Sackville High School Advisory Council

Sackville High’s school advisory council meets six times a year on the last Monday of the month in our library. We will be holding our first meeting this Monday, September 25th, at 6pm. We are looking for new members. If you are interested in being on our advisory council please join us this Monday.

Parking Lot Paving

Beginning as soon as tomorrow work will begin on paving sections of our parking lot and Kingfisher Way. This will include digging drainage trenches to ensure that water is not building up in the parking lot. With all the work taking place it means that there will be less parking available. Staff who are presently using the first three rows of parking will be required to park in the last three rows of parking spaces. Until further notice, there will be no student parking. Students are encouraged to find alternate forms of transportation to school during this time.

For parents who are dropping off, or picking up, students we ask that they do not enter the school parking lot. Due to the construction, and buses arriving to drop off or pick up students vehicle congestion will be a problem. If the weather is nice we ask that parents choose a spot away from Kingfisher Way to use as a transit point for their children. We ask for and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Please drop off and pickup your students in front of the second set of doors. It is very important to keep the bus lane open for the buses.

Cell Phone Usage In School

Teachers at SHS this year will be using cell phone lockers. Students will be required to store their cell phones in these lockers during class time unless their use is otherwise required for an instructional activity. Students will have use of the phones between classes, lunch time and if they have a prep period. If the student needs to be contacted due to an emergency please phone the main school line at 902-864-6700 ext 0.

Change to Class Caps in High School

We are looking forward to welcoming all students back to school on Thursday, September 7.

One thing as a school we want to bring to your attention this year is the introduction of class size caps and what it will mean for our school.

A maximum class size for all high school classes. According to the provincial directive, “Classes for grades Ten to Twelve are capped at 30 students (soft cap), up to 32 students (hard cap). Creating combined classes may be appropriate.”

Our school has worked extremely hard throughout the spring and summer to ensure all of our classes will meet these guidelines. Please do not be concerned if your son or daughter  tells you there are classes above the maximum size.

Enrolment always fluctuates  during the beginning of September. Our first priority is to assign students a time table and then make adjustments if necessary.
